As an adopter and someone who had a "bad experience" I can say this is most important...even if you ask all the right questions...get proof anyone can give you the perfect answers and then later you realize it was all a lie...
I hope some breeders jump in here for you and give you some great advice, there is also the sticky(s) you should read...
Here's what I ask, again I had two breeders who gave me great answers, one meant everything they said, we are friends now and stay in contact regularly...the other lies upon lies and I ended up with a sick dog and realizing I supported a greeder...so check everything and be cautious.
How long have they been breeding? How long Yorkies?
Do they show them? What's their motivation in breeding?
Ask about registration of the pup is it AKC? Limited or Full? Some people say things like pet price or other...find out what they really mean by that and make sure your sales contract reflects it.
Do they share the pedigree with you openly? I know a lot of people pride themselves on talking about champion bloodlines...but hm are you going to show your dog, breed it, is it worth paying more or are you looking for a healthy pet? If they do make such claims, ask to see the pedigree before committing, and get proof of everything people claim.
Ask about their breeding practices, what health screening do they do of their breeding stock? OFA certifications or other health certification documentation? Genetic testing for LS, history of any deficiency in the line, etc? DNA?
Ask who their vet is since you are going local....that may be far more important to know prior than you realize.
Ask about the frequency of litters, size weight of parents, age, can you see them are they both registered, does the breeder own both of them?
Get a clear and comprehensive understanding of the sales contract and the health guarantee. AND COPIES
Where do they keep their dogs, when do they let them go home to you?
Do they start immunizations, dew claws, tape ears, dock tails (be sure they have a vet do it etc) when?
Do they start training there...what type of training is it? Is it in line with what you will be doing when the pup comes home with you?
What food do they feed? What supplements do they use? Other products?
Will they and can they offer after adoption support? Are they knowledgeable enough to do so?
Read tons of the thread on YT! Hm I'd ask if they are on here!
You may really also want to look them up on here to find out what reputation they may have...I'd have know so much more if I had looked here first to find out the reputation of the breeder(s)...before finding out the hard way.
Hope that was a helpful start for you! Best of luck!
