All the Yorkie experts here say that a pup should stay with it's mother for 10 to 12 weeks. Why are you getting yours at such a young age? Is this your choice - or do you have to take it at this age?

I got my puppy at 8 weeks. Never had a problem. He was a good sized little guy. I am sure that helped. And, he had and still has a tremendous appetite. Plus, I held him constantly and slept with him from the get-go. So, he was never alone for the first few weeks. Even when I went back to work, I dropped him off at my sister's house where he could get his usual attention.

So - my thinking is that if you have a good-sized little pup with a good appetite and can be with him constantly - you'll probably not have many problems. Otherwise - he should be older before you take him home.

And ---all things being equal - these little pups (like everyone says) should probably stay with their mother at least until they are 10 weeks old. That would certainly be best.
