I have always had 2 dogs at a time, for companionship. Even though I am home most of the time, I like knowing when I'm gone they have each other for company.
After losing one schnauzer, I got my Yorkie.... and got addicted! After that I added 3 Morkies, and now have the 4 girls and love them all so much I can't imagine life without them. I do have to stop myself from looking at puppies now, because my brain starts thinking...maybe just one more

Obviously it depends on your individual situation, but multiples are great. I don't take them with me shopping and such, it's too much. They are happy at home with the gang.
