Sometimes medical conditions are not immediately known. I had an old cat who started to urinate outside his litterbox. He'd pee right next to it. Was always healthy, showed no sign of illness, even at his vet visit the month before he died. A month after his vet visit he fell over and had a stroke. When an animal starts to express behaviors that were not there before there are reasons and at ten years old I would suspect they are medical. Some animals will hide when they are ill, while others will want to be closer to their owners. From experience with the Yorkie breed, I have found that with my Yorkies even the one that tends to stay to herself will want to be held when she is not well. The urinating, and even the poop eating is a sign something is not right. I would certainly would not be punishing or hitting this dog. Remember, she gave you ten good years and you owe it to her to treat her with kindness and dignity in her old age.
