I don't want to weigh in on your decision to rehome him or not, but I did want to say this. Maybe you should open your heart to him. Grab him, hug him and cry into his soft coat. Dealing with loss is the most difficult situation in one's lifetime. Your baby can bring you tremendous comfort right now when you sound like you need him most.

I do not know the pain of having lost a child at all, I cannot even begin to imagine. I can only say that my boys were a godsend when I went through the worst, toughest time of my life. Your baby does not care whether he's had a bath in 2 weeks or 2 months or more. Actually he is probably thrilled he hasn't had to suffer through a bath.
