What about mixing the wet with dry, for every meal since he likes the wet? Nothing wrong with that, esp if he needs to gain weight. Wet food adds some variety in taste, and gives some hydration too. You could try feeding an extra meal too, in order to help him gain weight. Maybe give him a little something before bed time...?
If peanut butter agrees with him, you could give him a little finger lickin' of that a couple times a day. And/or put peanut butter in a Kong toy.
