I took her to the Vet. and was told that the glands should not have been expressed unless it was absolutely necessary. Now I have three Yorkies who have never had their anal glands expressed and have never had any problems. Two are six years old and the baby is 4 years old.
I totally agree!!! My first Yorkie Bailey I never took her to the groomers, I groomed her myself "kept in a puppy cut"..never had any problem in the 15 years she was with me.

When I got Bella I told my breeder I was gonna have Bella groomed cause hubby and I wanted to let her hair grow and she told me...NOT to let the groomers express her anal at all, it would cause her not to be able to express it herself and I would have to have it done every 2 weeks or so..."if its not broke, don't fix it". So I always tell my groomer no anal squeezing...LOL...its in big bold red letters on hers and Harleys records...and I have never had a problem...but you do have to tell the groomer if not they will do it...they say its routine but I don't understand if they know it will causes problems for the dog, why do it?
