ummm...I did rescue a puppy about 3 years ago...who now lives with my ex but she was a very bad dog...lol...God bless her, she was very dominate and doesnt like other dogs at all.....so I think rescuing might not be the best solution for your case...but dont get me wrong I think rescueing is a very very good thing....
I persoanly would go with a lab!!!! such sweet dogs!
