Hi, my Tezel used to whine and cry a lot at night as well when I first got him. Thanks to the fabulous advise from people in YT, now Tezel sleep thru the night without waking up and cry.
I think like what others has mentioned, make sure you put him somewhere he can see at night. Talk to him and gently ask him to sleep. For me, when he is in his crate, I just put my hands in and he will just sniff and lick a bit. Then I ask him to sleep, before you know it, he will lie down and close his eyes. It works for me, you can try it out...
