As everyone else has said, he needs to be seen by your vet. Make sure he has a geriatric physical with bloodwork. That should include a thyroid panel, but double check.

Thyroid imbalances cause hair loss and are very common in older dogs. Lady's been on thyroid medication for many years. It's a very easy and inexpensive condition to treat.
