Because in most areas where there is cold enough weather, there is little risk of mosquito bite during winter months. A lot of people want to keep the chemicals out of their dog, if at all possible. Although it is probably rare, I believe some dogs can have reactions to the drug.You can ask your vet if heart worm treatment is recommended in your area year round and assess the benefit vs. risk.
