My 15 month old female yorkie will not poop in the sandbox. Will pee (most of the time) in the sand box, but no poop.

She likes throw rugs. Sometimes the tile floor, but she likes the rugs. Tried washing rugs and spraying vinegar on rug... not much help.

I heap praise on her when she potties in the sand and she loves it. If we are watching TV, she will go into the utility room and pee in the sand. Then she will jump on the couch with us. She WAITS until I go and check the sand and she will come running as fast as she can when she hears me say she pottied in the sand. She goes wild in excitement with praise, but she still will not poop in the sand.

I can take her outside for 20 minutes and she will pee, then when we come in she might poop on a throw rug.

I have her smell her poop and say "bad dog" sternly. I don't hit her. She acts like she is VERY SORRY for doing it, if she is close to her cage, she will run and give me those sorrowful eyes, but next day we find another surprise.


Any ideas to get her to use the sandbox?
