I agree that the parents should be tested....BUT, what if the liver shunt gene came from the grandparents? Or the great grandparents? The sire or dam may not even have liver shunt. BUT, they will produce puppies or a puppy that has liver shunt. The actual PUPPY has to be tested for liver shunt. That's why the entire line has to be spayed and neutered to stop this disease.
