To clarify I had my puppies checked at 6 weeks and again at 10 and since they did not have worms I did not deworm them. Also about the diatomaceous earth, There is 2 different grades, if you do use it, you must get the one that hasn't been heated. And also you should not breath it in for long amounts of time. So I don't think it is wise to give it to your animals too often.. (this is just information I obtained off the web, as I never used it myself.
