I'm so sorry you are going thru this...Sending lots of prayers your way.
Its sounds to me that Mom has eclampsia...a lactating dog loses calcium through milk...and if that is the case...Mom will not be able to nurse at all now...you will have to fed, diaper and keep these babies warm...you will need a heating pad that doesn't have a auto shut off and keep it on low under a blanket..I would just put it under half there bed in case they get hot they can move off of it.
Goats milk and distilled water or you can use boiled water once its room temp you can get the goats milk at walmart its by the evaporated milk...goats milk is best pups will thrive on it.
I do believe its 1cc for every onch of weight so if you pups are 4oz than it would be 4cc...I have alway heard its best to under fed a pup than to over fed and take a chance of them sucking it down in there lungs...so you would have to feed every hour or so instead of every 2 hours....as they get older and are thriving they will be able to go longer in between feeding.
Make sure milk is room temp when feeding and pups are warm..do not hold a pup like you would a skin baby while feeding...keep puppy on its tummy like he is stand or like he would if he was nursing from mom...very important...and as you know you must diaper after every feeding...you are going to be very busy the next 3 weeks cause the pups are going to need fed, diapered and kept warm around the clock to ensure there health.
to burp them is just like a skin baby...just take one finger and tap them on there backs.
Make sure you wash your hands good before feeding them everytime, keep everything clean clean...and if the pups are sucking I would try a pet nurser...you can get them at walmart or pet smart...there just little baby bottles and you can control the flow of the milk.
God I hope this helps and I pray that mom will be ok and your puppies thrive. |
