To feed Tripe or not to Feed Tripe? So I feed Harley Now! kibble, he's free fed because he's so small 4lbs (barely) and so that my little "cupcake" gets all the required nutrients I've also been feeding Trippet Green Beef, I buy the small cans and he gets 1/8 of a can morning and night. Well Tripe is on back order at my closest pet store, and so I've been feeding Harley canned Atlantic salmon, (his stomach can handle fish, as he's been eating lobster, salmon and haddock, since he was a puppy). So it's been over a week since he's had tripe and still it hasn't arrived.
Well this week Harley's coat is AMAZING, there are two possible factors, either the increase in fish is really helping or the groomer last week used something new. cause I've been avoiding the groomer cause his hair would get dry and flakey thus I use my own products at home...
So now I've been thinking maybe instead of giving him tripe I should just switch to a source of fish completely. I've got a few options.
- keep giving him the salmon - but it's double the price of the Trippet
- purchase some fresh local haddock at the market and boil it and prep it myself (freezing the rest until it's ready to be cooked)
-go back to tripe
- explore any other canned food that has more fish.
What do you all think? I'm a fisherman's daughter so I'm really not against the whole fish for my dog thing, I don't like it, so he might as well eat it. That and I may be able to buy haddock from a local fisherman much cheaper than tripe...
