Default Petapotty question

Has anyone ever used a PetaPotty?:
PetaPotty The Pet's Place of Business

I was in Goodwill the other day and I bought one of these for $4.99. It is the 34"x34" size and looks brand new. Lol, when I saw it I thought it looked interesting and might make a good bed for my babies to lay on. It is hard plastic and has the tray but no grass. I can't believe how expensive they are new. I really don't understand how something like this would be better than using washable pee pads. From what I read the dogs are suppose to pee on the carpet and it goes through into the tray. You would still have to deal with cleaning the tray with the pee in it. Also it seems like the 'grass' would get icky fast with them peeing and pooping on it. Can anyone enlighten me as to the advantages of using one of these?

I think I will just put a comforter in it and use it as a doggie bed.
