I love my Nikon 50mm f1.4 (It is my go to lens when shooting kids and I suppose it would be great for shooting pets as well)
If you are buying a camera I would buy a reasonably priced DSLR and purchase the best quality lenses you can afford. You glass is where you need to spend your money.
