I have hardwood floors (bamboo) also but I like the metal exercise pens so what I did was get a section of vinyl flooring (softer than linenolum) cut slightly bigger than the pen to go underneath. We put the vinyl down, cover it with a blanket or towels, then the bed, food & water go at one end while the potty pad goes at the other end (I set it up in a long rectangle). It's easy to use, the blanket will soak up any spills or accidents, and they have the potty pad at the other end. The nice thing was that the vinyl flooring was very cheap and I didn't have to buy another exercise pen.
