I have both the soft sided octagon pen and the first X pen you show. The soft octagen pen is dark inside and the dog doesn't get much light. I use this for traveling.
The first X pen you show is the one I had set up in my kitchen. I have seen where people buy a small piece of linoleum and put that under the entire X pen for the floor. You could put a shower curtain down but it may end up being chewed to pieces. I liked this x pen because she could look out and not feel so confined.
