When I first moved Roxie out of her crate, I put her in the kitchen. I gated both entrances and she had her food, water, and bed in there with her. After a few months of that, I let her have free reign downstairs (kitchen, living room, dining room). I just make extra sure that there is nothing around that can hurt her, and I keep the bathroom door closed so that she can't get into the toilet or anything. I also have those plastic safety plugs in all the outlets. I am gone from 7am to 3pm everyday and she is fine.
