I went by the vet's office, and asked them about the shampoo and/or spray. They sold me a bottle of Virbac Ecto-Sooth 3X, and told me to use this shampoo about every week, and when Ruger is dry to follow-up with the spray.

The Virbac seems to have the same ingredients as other popular lice shampoos, but it's a little cheaper. Thanks for the replies, and I'll let you know how it goes. I honestly don't think my vet would give me anything that would harm Ruger, but I do realize there are many "natural" shampoos and sprays out there.

I also believe, IMHO, that with a small dog that has long hair the shampoo probably gets to more areas than a spray, and after it's been on the dog for the recommended 10 minutes it rinses completely off.
