Hi Everyone ! Sorry on the delay on updating the thread, was a bit hectic here this week. Lily is doing very well. Her surgery was last Friday and will we be taking her home tomorrow. It would have been today if it wasn't for the snow storm.
When Dr. Kocklin went in last Friday he did fiind a single extra hepatic shunt and closed it off with the ameroid constrictor. He was amazed that she had gone this long without any major symptoms. She was a good weight and eat well throughout the last 4 years. However, all of the signs that I had pointed out to my vet throughout the last couple of years didn't clue them to the fact that something might be wrong. Excessive drinking and urinating were the top ones and then of course there was the bleeding that started in August. The surgeon feels this was directly related to the problem with the kidneys which was most likely the result of the liver shunt. He is hoping that the kidneys will resolve themselves now. It was too dangerous to open the kidneys up during surgery but did notice heavy calcification and mineralization on the ultrasound.
The poor thing has staples from one end to the other, but it a little trooper.
She will remain on the L/D diet for 3 to 4 months and the lactalose for awhile, but not sure as of yet how long he will want her on that.
Just can't wait to get her tomorrow. CCVS was wonderful !!!
Thank you for all of your prayers. This forum was a huge help through this as two weeks ago, I was completely lost as to what to do and where to go to get her help.
We have a long recovery road ahead of us, but the future looks much brighter for Lily now.
