I have actually raised several baby squirrels. I love them. I have a friend who has a big trees close to their house and a busy road, and babies occasionally fall out of their nests during storms. He calls me if he finds them before the cats get to them. They are usually pretty little when this happens. I foster them until they are big enough to go outdoors and be on their own. I have a box in my tree where I transition them to where they stay and learn to gather their own food and I monitor them. They do become aggressive especially if they are defending a food source. Ours bury their winter food, then return at a later date to gather it. It is possible that your squirrels have food buried in your yard and when your dogs unknowingly get close to that food the squirrels defend it. Here are a couple of pics just for fun. I certainly understand the delimmas when they become a pest. This little fella's name was affectionately "nutty" and he used to squeel when it was dinner time.
