I have always cooked. Raising six sons doesn't allow for many fast foods for sure. I was so used to cooking for a crowd then, but now with only me and my husband I tend to cook too much at a time. When all my boys were home, I let each one decide what they wanted to eat and it made everyone happy. I use to put up a months menu on the ref. so everyone would know what we were having. I could make one chicken feed seven of us for two dinners. Now days, I go thru cook books, pick out at least seven recipes, jot down any ingredients I need and only buy what's on my list. I save plenty this way. On days I have appointments or other things that take me out of the house, I make a slow cooker recipe. You just have to plan.
