On a local note, my area shelter, HSSM, is not suffering from lack of funds, gets a 4 star rating from Charity Navigator and, on review, looks to be doing so many things right. They are still killing about 50% of all animals received, however. My point? I think the proof is in how the animals fare under these groups...not how the numbers look on paper.
I have to wonder just how things would be if the the money received by the big 3 (HSUS, ASPCA and PETA) were instead donated to local and no-kill groups that are more focused on actually reducing the number of animals killed rather than fund raising and having an impressive annual report.
