I'll say up front that I didn't check the annual report. Reason being....I don't think they tell the story. If you look at FlDebra's post above, you'll see that the ASPCA looks pretty good on paper. They are the group, however, that killed Oreo.....a cruel and senseless killing that is very telling about the group's character. Not to mention that the president of this group pulls in nearly a half million a year.

On a local note, my area shelter, HSSM, is not suffering from lack of funds, gets a 4 star rating from Charity Navigator and, on review, looks to be doing so many things right. They are still killing about 50% of all animals received, however. My point? I think the proof is in how the animals fare under these groups...not how the numbers look on paper.

I have to wonder just how things would be if the the money received by the big 3 (HSUS, ASPCA and PETA) were instead donated to local and no-kill groups that are more focused on actually reducing the number of animals killed rather than fund raising and having an impressive annual report.
