No, I won't be going, but I would love to see our shelter director go. Our local shelter is doing so many of the 'right' things, but still has about a 50% kill rate. The one thing I see is the fees charged for picking up your dog or cat after it has been picked up. It can be $120 for an intact animal. I think some folks get their dogs for free and won't pay to get it back if it winds up in the shelter. That, and there's so many owner surrenders. It's like a dump for unwanted animals. Can't blame the shelter for that but I think they could do much better.
It's funny (not in a ha ha way) that they seem to find homes for animals when there's a mill or hoarder found out. Somehow the resources just seem to be there for these animals. It's the ones that aren't publicized that seem to get the short end of the stick. |
