! It's kind of hard to explain...but I use just the comb on their face/mustache. I hold the fur right at the base of the roots (so that it doesn't pull at the root area, if there is a mat) and then I use the comb to brush outward. If there is mat, I'll also use the tip/front-most pin of the comb to break it up a bit too.
Oh also, when working on their face or a mat...in addition to combing outward, I also try to "turn" the comb (like "flip" it in circular motion) right before I get to the end of of the fur...so that I'm not pulling fully outward, but also a little 1/4 circle right at the end, so that I don't pull out and then suddenly have it 'yank' at the end from too much outward momentum.
Oh my, not sure any of that even made sense.
