Sounds like you made a smart choice. You worked under a trainer's supervision and had good results. Nothing wrong with that. Pinches used responsibly are not a bad idea. Unlike a buckle collar, the dog doesn't put any pressure on its neck because it knows it will hurt.
I personally prefer using treats or a toy to lure them into the correct position, but I certainly don't fault your choice.
