Levi is my "big" yorkie at about 10/11 lbs...I keep a collar on him with his tags. Lily is my lttle girl at 4.7 pounds and she wears a harness all the time with her tags on it. If either goes on a leash walk...I switch Levi into a harness also. Never a collar.
Both of mine are confined to my kitchen area. i would not leave a collar on a dog that is crated. I would worry about it being a choking hazard. Just my opinion.
