Oh my gosh, I am just now reading your post and it reminds me of what happened with my little male the last few months. He had episodes of what you were describing, of what we thought were HGE, and treating him as such with IV's, Hills ID, etc., but these "episodes" were becoming more frequent. I had him on Natures Variety in the beginning, then Stella and Chewys and still don't know if this had anything to do with it...anyway, after trying all sorts of treatments with my local vet, who I love, we decided to make a visit to Texas A&M Veterinary School of Medicine to see a specialist, to try to find the real problem. They did an ultrasound and all sorts of other tests, which showed nothing, but decided to try him on a new food / antibiotic regime and he has now gone since December 1 without a single problem. They put him on Royal Canine HP (Hypo allergenic food), Tylosin powder in capsules 2x per day, Baytril, Metamucil sprinkled on his food, and absolutly no treats or any other food at all - not even pill pockets to take his meds with. He also gets a Vit B 12 shot weekly....it has worked. We are supposed to check in with the A&M vet next week and will see if they will continue this course, but I will tell you prior to this, I had one sick little baby. We had the bloody, mucusy stools and vomiting...his episodes were becoming more and more frequent. He is now perfectly fine and doing great...and he loves his new food! They gave me a list of 2-3 to try, but the RC HP he liked. I guess it was all just a severe food alergy that had the bacteria growing and building up in his gut, if that makes sense. My local vet admitted it all made sense, she never thought about it becasue it was so simple...I have no idea if this can be the case with Apple, but I thought I'd throw it out there "just in case" - my prayers are with you and your baby... |
