Default Can they ever be fully housetrained?

Hi all,

I have a 12 week old Maltese/Yorkie male who is adorable and is doing ok with his potty training - not great, not bad, just ok. He's going outdoors only, and I'd say he has an accident every 2-3 days, but in general he makes it outside probably two thirds of the time. I knew before I got him that Yorkies were supposed to be difficult to train, but now I'm really wondering just how trained he's going to get!

Does anyone out there have an adult Yorkie who is really fully trained? My last dog was, but she was quite a bit larger, and she was trained within a few weeks. I've had my puppy for 4 weeks now (I JUST found out that they shouldn't be taken away from their mothers before 12 weeks, but nothing I can do about that now) and I'm wondering if there's any end in sight to watching him like a hawk and taking him out every hour!

Thanks, I appreciate any words of encouragement and success stories! This board has been a great resource for me since my little guy came home.
