Did the vet put her on antibiotics? Usually a clean out shot and antibiotics will do the trick. Like the others said, you don't always see all the placentas because mom will eat them and some are absorbed. In my 14 plus years of raising yorkies I have only had one female that got very sick from a retained placenta. In her case the vet had to flush out her uterus and she also had to have a blood transfusion but he was able to save her. The most important thing is to watch your girls temperature. She definitely needs to be on antibiotics. If her temperature continues to be high after being on antibiotics then I would not hesitate to get her back to the vet.
