I have no idea what to tell you. It could work to put the old carpets back in because it may feel more like "home" to them, but my experience has been bad with carpets in any way shape or form.
Mine are pad trained, but for some reason if we go anywhere there is carpet or rugs - there they go. I just don't get it myself. Sorry.
