What kind of dog is it? Look for rescues of that breed (or multiple breeds if necessary - some are size specific) in your area and STRONGLY urge your boss to contact them. Or ask her permission to contact them yourself. If the condition is treatable by medicine a rescue very well may be willing to take her if they have room. Please, please try to persuade her to do this!!

Your post broke my heart and shot my blood pressure through the roof. I just cannot understand getting rid of a family member after 11 years like this. Some people.....
