I would recommend you donate to your local animal shelter. I know my local shelter loves donations of food, toys, cleaning supplies, etc. Of course they never turn down cash or volunteers either  . Honestly if you want to help animals in your own area it is best to donate in your own back yard.

I agree 100% personally i would NEVER support the humane society. their own president has been quoted with saying he never wants to see another dog or cat born ever. their main goal is to shut down all forms of animal breeding and ownership (meaning NO PETS). they are too far out there to really help and spend their millions on advertising and their own pension plans and don't spend but 1% or less on actually helping shelters and animals. they don't volunteer or help shelters really at all they are all about making laws to shut down all forms of pet ownership and breeding and lobbying with your money.
I would support a local shelter or YHR Yorkie Haven Rescue
