I maybe blind but I did not see the age of the furbaby. So I will assume a puppy. Puppies sleep a lot and he may feel more secure being close to you, I know Andy did Start with small toys and interact with him. Soon he will have a favorite maybe for now give a small stuffed animal. I hate to say this but allowing your nephew to play with your pup is a no no these little ones are can be hurt easy and he may by being mean to him create a mean pup. This you do not want.

Does the puppy have it's own blanket,sweaters,coat etc these things are important.
