I wouldn't allow the three-year-old nephew to mistreat him ever. He will eventually strike out in self-defense. That is a situation that should not be allowed to continue at all.
Have you had yorkies in the past? He may have a sad past, since you said his previous family didn't have him very long. If he came from a puppy mill, he has probably never learned to play. Generally, they like squeaky balls and other soft, squeaky toys. Be sure he has a safe place to go, where he can feel secure, when he wants to sleep. Do you have a harness and leash so you can take him for walks? Never put a collar on him for walks. A collar can damage his delicate trachea. Be patient and praise him liberally when he does something good. In fact, praise him regularly and let him know what a good boy he is and how proud of him you are.
He may have been mistreated by other small children, so I would definitely get a handle on that situation immediately. To allow it to continue is cruel.
