I live in Manitoba, Canada and am involved with the local Humane Society Pet Visitation Program. Approx. every other week my 4 yr old Yorkie Gus and 2 yr old Yorkie Poo Gidgit visit at the local hospital. We have been doing this since Gus was about 6 mos. old. It is a very rewarding experience. Many of the patients benefit from interaction with the pups and enjoy talking about their pets that they either have at home or that they have had in the past, even as small children. Not a visit goes by where Gus and Gidgit have failed to put smiles on the faces of many people. The pups also seem to like the experience, they are very excited to be there and very much enjoy the love and attention they receive. I think it's a great program. |
