If your female has not been spayed and her vulva is "puffy" or swollen, with in a few days you will start to see blood spotting. That is, if she is past 4-8 months of age. Once you notice swelling and then spotting, the estrus cycle can and usually does, last another 2- 2 1/2 weeks. You MUST watch her constantly because any intact male will go after her. A very large male of any breed can cause great harm to your baby so do not let her anyhwere that she can be on the floor or ground. Also, if you take her to the home of another person who has a male (usually intact males will mark but so will neutered) you can cause that person a lot of grief. The male in that home will most likely start marking whether you are there or have already left. Any place the scent of a female in estrus is sensed by a male is a place where they will mark.. |
