I didn't know there was a difference until now. The guy apparently never heard you catch more flies with honey. I think he should have nicely suggested there was a pet friendly de-icer, maybe even bought him some as a friendly gesture.
Some people don't get it that you can't 'force' someone to come around to your line of thinking with aggression. I'd have to say the one guy is worse than the non-animal liker...which he probably only said that because the first guy probably came across all tough and demanding.
