 Facetime...
I am interested in a bit more of a detailed description of the grooming in the eye area. I have read all the posts and understand this is a personal preference when it comes down to it, but this is the issue I am facing and the previous posts don't quite address my question...
Nemo seems to have decent hair growth (he is 6 mths old) and relatively silky coat. I am in that stage of hair length that he gets that weird hump on his nose, but no whiskers to trim to help it lay down, and it's not that it doesn't lay down, it just doesnt stay very flat on an active puppy...lol.
I am growing his coat as long as I can stand the maintenance. So far so good, as he has a relatively easy coat to groom (silky, medium density) and he's groomed with a full comb out every day (it's our together bathroom time when I get home from work and take off my make-up).
So with that in mind and the photos attached, I need some advice. He seems to have hair growing directly on the inside of the inside corners of his eyes. Due to the hair being positioned where it is, he tears constantly. Since he is a blonde, this darker wet fur shows up. No staining, just wet. Of course I'm also dealing with those little hairs that are annoyingly long but not long enough to stay in the topknot all the time and end up looking like long loopy brows that hang over his eyes at odd moments as well. My concern is that with the wetness constantly below his eyes and on the sides of his nose, he will end up with a problem. His hair is training well and I don't see any indications that there is a problem with the growth pattern of his hair.
So is this tearing due to the hair still not laying as flat as it will if I continue to let it grow, or should I consider a slight trim of this hair due to the positioning? I want to keep growing his topknot and prefer the traditional look for the yorkie, but would really enjoy seeing his face occasionally when I don't have the topknot in...lol. He has an adorable sweet face! If that slight trim is going to solve the problem of the constant wetness on his face, then I need to know if it would be practical to actually trim the small area from inside corner of eye to inside corner of eye and possibly up a bit to open the face? If so, how far up would be correct to allow a slight brow for the topknot hair to part away from his eyes when its not up, but still allow the topknot to be done when wanted? Or if it would be healthier for the eye area to just trim that tiny inner corner of the eye? Or if this is normal when growing the hair out and I just need to keep it as dry as I can while it's going thru it's growing pains?
