Default Road Runner

Hi everyone,
My Yorkie, Cassius, is playful, spirited and loving. When we're inthe house he's learned how to sit when called, stay and stand. My problem is that he listens to my commands for the most part while we're in the house. Of course except when the mailman or delivery man comes, then it's no holds bar.

My problem is when I let him out in the yard to go potty. In stead of going, he will run around the yard like a maniac. He barks at me and runs from me. The training he's learned goes out the window. I end up chasing him around the yard, trying to catch him. I must look like an idiot running around in my robe and slippers trying to catch him...)

Any suggestions on how I can get him to listen to my commands when he's out. I've tried placing him on a lead, but he's not having that. I'll leave the door open and he'll run back and forth many times bringing in sticks, rocks or whatever he can find, back into the house to play hide and seek. I have no problem with this, but I need to get control over him when he's outside. I'm afraid he won't listen to me when it's important for his safety.

Please help.
