First let me say how sorry I am for both you and Max. At one year old and in renal failure....I'd want to find out why, so a second opinion is very good to have. At this young age, it is likely a genetic disorder of some sort vs a vs the kidney. There will be other posters who can explain what those results mean in layman's terms. I am glad you called the breeder because she will need and should want to know the results of any specific diagnosis.

Unfortunately these diseases can come on very quickly, it is thought that by the time organs show poor functioning that about 85% of that particular organ is Not functioning at all.
