I agree! I wouldn't register with any other registry, because I believe that they are just "paper" registries, and their purpose is to mislead people. I had Joey's microchip number registered with the AKC and this is just one more bit of information that might help reunite us if I'm ever lost!

I think the AKC can also keep breeders honest, many breeders say that their dogs are eligible, but when a pet owner tries to register them, they learn they are not eligible. A breeder should be able to give you a litter number. Also, many breeders don't register their dogs because they know they are more likely to be inspected if they have over a certain number of litters, and don't want to be inspected, but these routine unannounced inspections really do help dogs, and ensure that they are kept in a safe humane environment. Right now the AKC has way more breeders who are involved in their policies than pet owners, and I believe we need more pet owners involved. Seriously, the registration fee is worth it!
