Alot of people don't register their Pets with AKC. However, for the small amount of $20 you get a nice certificate for "proof" of ownership (a microchip could do that instead), free 30 days insurance, a nice puppy magazine, etc. What I really like is that your $20 goes toward funding AKC inspections and to help fight anti-dog and anti-breeder legislation through out the country.
