Dinky was terrified of everything outside. We got him at 4 1/2 months. At first he wouldn't even walk on a leash. We just kept taking him out and taking him out. He would stop and stare and stare at cars, especially bigger cars, trucks, vans. Sprinklers freaked him out. After he did start walking, it was obvious he was mostly interested in getting back to the house and safely inside. Little by little, he started to like it. Now he LOVES it, but it took about 6 weeks before he really liked to be outside. There were setbacks: mean dogs, for instance.
It did help that this was during the summer, and, at first, when he stopped, we would just scoop him up and carry him for a while.
It was worth it, he walks like a champ now. Just keep at it! |
