Until recently I free fed everyone. The elderly Boxer, Boo, has dementia and she eats and drinks until everything is gone. She scarfs up huge mouth fulls and forgets to chew. Recently she choked - she collapsed and then coughed it up. Since then I feed twice daily - except for the pups and they get fed 4 times a day plus snacks if they seem hungry. With Boo, I mix a small portion of chicken goo with her food, cover it with water and nuke it for 2 minutes. By the time it cools down its soft enough to prevent choking.
The Yorkies prefer theirs dry.
