It was like someone gave him a giant coffee with TONS of sugar and whatnot. We didn't get any sleep that night, and he was howling, barking, growling, and was overall jumpy at any movement and shadows. It was horrible.

Maybe this is one of the consequences of bad breeding? I honestly don't know what happened.
This is the way Joey acted after I gave him the pain meds, it wasn't too bad after the first pill, but I think after the second, I called the vet, and he told me to stop. The drug was Turbutrol, and it really made him hyper. Some drugs do this, they have the opposite effect and try to figure out which drug it was and have it listed on his record under "allergies". Your vet will be able to tell you which drug it was, but you should keep this in your records just in case he needs a pain medication again. This could be disastrous with certain conditions when they want them to remain calm. I had the same problem with Talwin, it's a pain reliever that's supposed to be a sedative, but it makes me feel like I'm on speed, lol, not that I know how that feels, I guess I should say, like I've had 10 pots of coffee.
