My vet also says that if you spay before her first heat, it greatly reduces her risk of getting mammory cancer later in life. I'm doing it at 5 1/2 months b/c her mom was 6 months when she first went into heat (just to be safe.) I'm sure others on here with more knowledge can elaborate on that.
